Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture stimulates, disperses, and regulates the flow of the vital energy of the body.  This vital energy is known as Qi, pronounced Chee. Through the insertion of fine needles into specific points, acupuncture can help to restore health and eliminate pain.  Optimal Health and well-being are directly related to the free flow of Qi and conversely, pain and illness are a result of a blockage to the flow of Qi

What is Jin Shin Jyutsu?

Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient art used to harmonize and bring balance to the body's energy flow.  By placing the fingertips (over clothing) on designated safety energy locks, this will facilitate the body's own natural healing mechanism.  It compliments other healing methods, induces relaxation, and reduces the effects of stress.  These treatments can be for anybody from infants and children to adults and elderly.  This form of therapy can be used for someone who is needle sensitive as well. For more information , go to the jsjinc.net website.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed, will depend on the individual and the comlexity of each case.  The practitioner will discuss with you the number of treatments you may need over a period of time after the initial assessment has been made.  Generally speaking, acute conditions take fewer treatments than chronic ailments.

What can I expect during my treatment?

We try and provide a relaxing and soothing environment to compliment the nature of our practice. Typically the needles are left in place for approximately 25-35 minutes while you relax on a comfortable massage table. It is very common for one to fall asleep during a treatment. We ask that you allow yourself 60 minutes with each follow up visit, so that we can address any new changes or re-evaluate existing conditions.

What about the needles?

The acupuncture needles are stainless steel, filiform needles that are pre-packaged, sterilized, and disposed of after one time use. The acupuncture needles are extrmely fine and are slightly thicker than a strand of hair.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Discomfort with the insertion of an acupuncture needle is little to none. We tend to associate the word needle with the hypodermic needles used to draw blood or to give an injection. Acupuncture needles are solid versus hollow and extremely thin, therefore, the greater probability of a pain-free experience.
